DISABLED SKIERS OF THE YEAR 2009

FEMALE SKIER

Delphine Le Sausse - Multiple Plegic 3 – France

At the September World Disabled Championships in France

under challenging conditions (imagine a river with concrete

walls on both sides!), Delphine was hugely successful in

the largest female category, competing against Great

Britain's many times world champion and record holder

Adaline Fahey. In that category, she won the overall and

slalom titles along with silvers in jump and tricks, greatly

helping France to its first ever team overall podium finish.

In the prestigious tournament individual overall combining

all disability categories, she placed second among

women, an amazing achievement. Paralleling those

performances, her EAME ranking, also all disability

categories combined, was first in slalom and third in

tricks and jump. She even competed in an able-bodied

event in the fall running 2/43/18.25m, a potential world

record, a score that was subsequently lowered to

0.5/43/18.25m due to video issues.

MALE SKIER

Craig Timm - Arm Amputee - USA

At the September World Disabled Championships in France under

challenging conditions (imagine a river with concrete walls on both

sides!), Craig twice broke a twenty year old world jump record as

the last skier at the tournament on the water and helped cement a

U.S. team victory at Worlds and win the gold. The metric distances

of his two jumps were the same with both exceeding the existing

world record, and the record has been accepted. Each jumper was

only allowed two jumps because of safety concerns due to

backwash if a third jump were taken. He also won gold in slalom,

with his points going towards the U.S. team victory, a gold in

overall and a silver in tricks. Finally, in the prestigious tournament

individual overall combining

all disability categories, he

placed second. A week later, at an RC event in

Minnesota, he continued his streak by twice breaking the

world slalom record, records that have just recently been

approved. He also tied his week old jump record in that

same tournament, thus three world records set and two

of his own tied in the space of a few weeks.

RACING SKIERS OF THE YEAR 2009

FEMALE SKIER

Kim Lumley – Great Britain

Kim Lumley is an extraordinary athlete. She has dominated GB and

European Ladies competition in the Ski Racing division for almost a

decade. She has held the European Title many times and of course

the GB National Title.

In 2005 she won the Open Women WORLD TITLE at Hunstanton, GB,

holding off the mighty challenges of USA and Australia, and was

deemed very unlucky not to retain her title in New Zealand in 2007,

taking Silver.

Over the last 8 years she has won the arduous Catalina Island Race,

60 miles on the Pacific, no less than 7 times, and the only European

Lady ever to win. She won Catalina in 2009 and followed that up

with a flawless performance in July at the 2009 World Racing

Championships, winning all four tough canal/river races in arguably

the toughest possible conditions worldwide, to clinch a most worthy

World Championship Gold to stamp her authority on the Sport as

the undoubted World Number One in securing her Second World Title.
